Judaism For Schools offers a number of workshops relating to Judaism. Please click on the workshop titles below to reveal further details.

In this in-school workshop students have the chance to examine scrolls and texts, handle Jewish artefacts and scribe in Hebrew.

  • How  is the beginning  and end of the Sabbath marked? In this in-school workshop students discover the ancient rules attached to keeping the Sabbath and how they have been adapted to the modern world. Shabbat is explored within a family setting, traditional symbolic foods are tasted and the Havdalah ceremony is explored.
  • What does the concept of rest mean to you?
  • Why do Jewish families still gather each week to celebrate the Sabbath ?

  • What does a bar/bat mitzvah involve?
  • How do our rights and responsibilities change as we grow up?
  • What is the Jewish approach to birth, youth, marriage and death?
  • How do Jewish beliefs, values and moral codes apply to modern life?
  • Find out more about the Jewish rite of passage, and how the teachings of the Torah inform Jewish youth on how to conduct their lives.
  • Learn more about approaches to charity, prayer and rituals through handling Jewish text and Jewish artefacts.
  • Reflect on our changing identities as we develop.

  • Identity, Practice and Belief: students gain an overview of key concepts of Judaism through objects and discussion.
  • What do Jewish people believe?
  • How do ancient religions adapt to a modern world?
  • Are ancient texts still relevant?
  • The similarities of all 3 monotheistic religions are explored.
  • Questions and misconceptions are answered in a no-holds barred discussion.
